MarkHinchliffe reports MORE IN PIPELINE: Charley Boorman and Ewan McGregor can’t get enough of their road trip adventures. Way Down around-the-world motorcycle tour and Long Way Down Scotland-to-Capetown trip is on the cards in the next couple of years. A Boormanconfirmed yesterday from his garage headquarters in Kensington, London, that he wanted to do a third instalment. ‘‘Ewan’s so busy,’’ he said. ‘‘There were a few years be- tween the first two and we only just completed Long Way Down in 2007, so it will be at least another year.’’ His producer, Russ Malkin, said the trip would be called Long Way Up and would start at the southern tip of South Amer- ica and end at the top of Alaska. Meanwhile, Boorman and Malkin are in the final stages of preparing for the sequel to their recent Foxtel series, By Any Means, which took the pair from Scotland to Sydney by any means of transport they could find. Transport modes included boats, trucks, buses, taxis, tuk- tuk, bicycles, motorcycles, even elephants. By Any Means 2 will start on May 1 in Sydney and head through Queensland to South East Asia, Japan and Russia REUNION of actors Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman for a sequel to the Long over the following three months. Boorman said a final third By Any Means instalment would go from Russia across Canada back to his home in Ireland. ‘‘Russ and I came up with the original BAM idea over drinks at the Valencia MotoGP,’’ he said. ‘‘We’d always thought that we would go back to Ireland, over- land all around the world.’’ While in Queensland, Boor- man plans to visit family friend and Sean Connery’s former wife Lady Diane Cilento in North Queensland. Between the first two Long Wayseries,Boormantackled the gruelling Dakar Rally for theTV series Race to Dakar. He crashed out with a broken wrist on the fifth day and vowed not to return. However, he said the rally, which has now been switched form northern Africa to South America, was still on his mind and he continued to compete in off-road events to keep his riding skills honed. ‘‘I’d love to do it again,’’ he said. ‘‘Dakar has always been close to my heart. KTM’s lack of faith blessing in disguise IT IS one of the great temper tantrums of reality TV; Charley Boorman ripping a KTMmotorcycle poster off the wall amid a torrent of abuse. The scene is from the Long Way Down around-the-world motorcycle adventure with fel- low actor Ewan McGregor. The actors had just been knocked back for vehicle sup- port because the Austrian mo- torcycle company believed they could not successfully complete their venture to ride from London to New York via Europe and Asia. ‘‘With hindsight, I amreally glad we decided to go with BMW,’’ Boorman said. ‘‘I was keen on the KTM Adventure bikes, but they werenegative whileBMWwas so positive and confident. ‘‘Hand on my heart, I can say that BMW was the right decision.’’ He said theKTMbikes were too new and unproven and their fuel tanks too small. He now uses a BMWR 1200 GS as his town bike in London and as his training bike when he teaches off-road riding skills for friend and Austral- ian ex-pat Simon Pavey in Wales. ‘‘You can cruise at 70mph down the highway to Wales, then ride all day long in the gravel and have fun, then at the end of the day you can ride it home again,’’ he said. ‘‘There’s no other bike that can do that.’’ MARK HINCHLIFFE Don’t pay $2400 Our Price Our Price$149999 To view our full product range visit our website www.goeasyonline.com.au 1300 766 469 For only $29.95, park your wheels in Tasmania’s highest profile vehicle market, the CARSguide classifieds.
