Happy 150th DOUBLE TROUBLE: Tasmanian Marcos Ambrose will race in both the Sprint Cup and Nationwide series Nascar races in New York this weekend. piloted by Marcos Ambrose in the past week. The Tasmanian Nascar driver W got bored in between his Nascar round in Pennsylvania last weekend and this week’s round in New York. So he bought a cheap raft and a rod and went fishing. ‘‘I was pleased with the raft but rain turned the creek into rapids and the fish weren’t biting, so it wasn’t such a successful day,’’ Ambrose said. ‘‘The water was high but I made it back safely. ‘‘I’m not sure if I’ll have time to try it again this weekend.’’ Ambrose won’t have time. He will compete in both the SprintCup race and the second-tier with JAMES BRESNEHAN Nationwide Series event, both at Watkins Glen, New York. Ambrose is 18th in his first full year in the Sprint Cup championship, the highest-placed first-year driver. The Tasmanian is no stranger to double duty in the Sprint Cup and HAT do a $20 inflatable raft and a $600,000 Nascar have in common? Both have been Nationwide Series, having done it numerous times last year. But this weekend will be the first time he has performed the double this season. The extra track time will not phase him. At the same event last year he won the Nationwide Series race on the Saturday and followed up with third place in the Sprint Cup race the next day, after starting from the rear of the field. ‘‘It was a big relief to be able to win my first Nascar race at Watkins Glen last year because I had draggedmyfamily halfway around the world to go Nascar racing,’’ Ambrose said. ‘‘Then the cup race on Sunday felt like a win too, coming from the back to get third place. ‘‘This year I’ve had some great runs on ovals, superspeedways and at a road course. ‘‘This is only my first year full- time in the Sprint Cup and we are still getting our legs under us. ‘‘We had no expectations and we are pleasantly surprised at our progress in such a short amount of time.’’ Ambrose was in good form at the Pennsylvania 500 last weekend, placed ninth in the final stages of the race. He actually held the race lead for the first time ever, taking over at the front on lap 93. But he was crashed out and and finished 34th. ‘‘I finished sixth when we raced there earlier in the year and we wanted to do even better last week,’’ Ambrose said. ‘‘We were running in the top 10 and moving forward until we were collected in an accident.’’ Euro Central EURO Central have a preowned 2007 Hyundai Tucson City SX for $19,888.
