The Mercury Cars Guide : May 1st 2010
Saturday, May 1, 2010 Classifieds 62 300 400 • carsguide.com.au ---11 Horse swapped for horsepower HORSEPOWER: Actress Zoe Naylor with her Ducati Monster 696. cars HORSEFLESH: Actress Zoe Naylor in McLeod's Daughters. ACTRESS Zoe Naylor could be tempted to change up a gear to a bigger Ducati motorcycle. The former McLeod's Daughters star rides a Ducati Monster 696, but is eyeing off the coming 796 with the larger engine from the Hypermotard 796. The new Monster 796 is a mid- sized model that slots in between the 696 and 1100 with a 10mm lower seat (800mm) and 20mm higher handlebars for a more comfortable and ''in-command'' riding position, particularly suit- able for women and shorter ri- ders. Naylor, who is an ambassador for the Ducati brand, started out riding a scooter and has only held her bike licence six months. ''I originally looked at Harleys which are more comfortable than sportsbikes,'' she says. ''I always found sportsbikes full on and so aggressive in their seat position. ''So if this 796 makes it more comfortable then it's ideal for me. ''However, I like my 696 as it's pretty comfortable for a sportsbi- ke and sexy, but if the 796 has even more comfort it would be more amazing.'' Alison Fraser, group marketing manager for Ducati importers NF Importers and Fraser Motor- cycles says the 796 arrives in July and has been created to fill the gap in the monster family be- tween the 696 and 1100 models. ''Although not specifically cre- ated for women, I cannot rule out the Monster 796 as an appealing option,'' she says. ''Whether male or female, this capacity will ap- peal to those who would like a step above the 696 but keep handling, maneuvrability and daily commuting key in their purchase.'' Fraser says ABS will be op- tional on the 796, but no prices have been decided yet. The new Desmodue 796 engine produces 64kW which sits in between the 696 with 58.8kW and the 69.8kW of the 1100. Similarly its dry weight of 167kg is between the 161kg and 169kg of its Monster brothers, so we should expect the price to be somewhere between the list price of $13,790 for the 696 and $18,990 of the 1100. It comes with a micro-bikini fairing, single seat cover, new seat with red stitching and single- sided swingarm. It is available in red, white or black with a red trellis frame and black wheels that have a red flash around the rim. Naylor is a freelance writer for Australian Traveller and Road Rider magazines and will appear in the upcoming Australian film, The Reef (reefmovie.com) MARK HINCHLIFFE To see all of the End of Financial Year offers visit buyamitsubishi.com.au or call 1300 13 12 11 See mitsubishi-motors.com.au for further information.
