The Mercury Cars Guide : July 24th 2010
24--- Classifieds 62 300 400 • carsguide.com.au Saturday, July 24, 2010 MOTORSPORT Nascar Ambrose banks on a good Indy outcome RACE WHEELS James Bresnehan TASSIE CHAMP: Nascar driver Marcos Ambrose (No. 47) tears up the tarmac in California. TASMANIAN Marcos Ambrose hopes a win by his stablemate David Reutimann last round will rub off on the JTG Daugherty Racing driver as the Nascar Sprint Cup championship heads to Indianapolis for the Brickyard 400 this weekend. Ambrose's teammate scored his second career victory, backing up his success from last year's rain shortened Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway by winning at Chicagoland two weeks ago. Ambrose has been battling to finish in the top 20 most of the season, so hopes Indianapolis can bring a change of fortune. ''JTG Daugherty Racing works very closely with David's team, Michael Waltrip Racing, and we're so proud that David and his crew were able to pick up the win in Chicagoland,'' Ambrose said. ''They've put in an awesome effort, and we hope that that momentum can roll over into Indy for the whole squad.'' After finishing 22nd in both of his previous race starts at the famed venue, Ambrose is looking to climb up the leader board at Indy. ''The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is one of the greatest race tracks in the world --- it's hard to describe what it feels like racing there,'' Ambrose said. ''The place has an incredible history, it's one of the fastest ovals on the calendar, and it holds the biggest crowd of any track we visit. ''I always dreamed of racing at Indy, and when I qualified for my first oval race there in 2008, it was an awesome feeling.'' After Indianapolis, the Nascar Sprint Cup Series moves on to Pocono Raceway, and then Watkins Glen International, where Ambrose will do double duty, by racing in the Nascar Nationwide Series. After claiming victory in the past two Nationwide events on the New York circuit, Ambrose's Camry will carry backing from Kwik Fill and Zippo in his quest for three successive wins. ''Watkins Glen is going to be a very busy weekend, but we ran both programs there last year, and it proved to be successful,'' Ambrose said. ''It's going to be exciting. It's where I won my first Nascar race and the whole team has been looking forward to this event all year.'' Local heroes set for German GP Michael Schumacher Nico Rosberg Sebastian Vettel Adrian Sutil Nico Hulkenberg Timo Glock GERMAN grand prix fans will be at fever pitch this weekend as six local drivers and the famous McLaren-Mercedes team, which includes home- town hero Michael Schumacher, hit Hockenheim for the German Formula One GP. Schumacher, seven-times world champion and winner of 91 grands prix, can get set for a hero's return at the historic race track, and the famous Silver Arrow of Mercedes will also make its first home appearance in 2010. The other Germans in the field are Schumacher's Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg, Red Bull's Sebastien Vettel, Force India's Adrian Sutil, Williams' Nico Hulkenberg and Virgin's Timo Glock. Schumacher has won more races at Hockenheim than any driver in the field. He said this grand prix would be one of the highlights of the season. ''There is one thing for sure, no matter how long you've been around, it is always something special to race in front of your home crowd,'' Schumacher said. At Hockenheim I will definitely try my best for fans who give me so much support. ''But the German GP is special for any German driver.'' The newest German F1 hero Sebastien Vettel will be hoping the powerful Red Bull engine and its excellent aerodynamic package will give him a winning edge at the fast and flat 4.57km circuit through the Bavarian Forest. Lewis Hamilton won the last German GP held at Hockenheim in 2008, and Red Bull's Australian pilot Mark Webber won the 2009 German GP at Nurburgring. Vettel and Hamilton are sure to be wary of Webber who is placed a respectable third in the championship. www.djmotors.com.au email@example.com Glenorchy 275 Main Road, Glenorchy Phone: 6213 3 315 Brian Anning 0418 531 853 Chris Wakefield 0400 635 446 Allan Gebel 0428 729 659 Hobart 1a Brisbane Street, Hobart Phone: 6213 3300 Warren Amos 0417 544 829 Jason Spong 0408 473 756 Easy finance available with DJ Financial Services †To approved business clients only, with a $2,500 deposit over five years with a 30% residual payment. 1.
