The Mercury Cars Guide : June 13th 2009
2— No break for Ford in recall nightmare FORD’S battered reputation has taken another hit with the company recalling 20,864 LPG cars. The recall involves all BF Series II and III and the new FG Falcon sedan, wagon and ute fitted with the factory-fitted LPG system, called E-Gas, which are popular with fleets and tradies. The cars affected were built from January 16, 2007 to Au- gust 22 last year. The defect involves the brake booster check valve, which may develop a vacuum leak. Ford spokesman, Justin Lacy, said the valve can devel- op a leak, leading to reduced power assistance for the brakes. Worried owners should contact their local Ford dealer or Ford’s customer rela- tions line on 1800 503 672. In recent months Ford has been hit with a range of glitches that are damaging its hard-fought reputation. In March, it was forced to recall 83,000 SX and SY Terri- torys to replace front brake hoses after widespread con- sumer reports of brake fail- ures. As well, Carsguide has un- covered a raft of quality prob- lems after months of consumer complaints, covering every- thing from rust and paint. The most recent concerns relate to front balljoint failures on high- mileage Territorys. Ford has also recalled its Focus and Mondeos to check brake vacuum pumps. The recall for the LV Focus and MA Mondeo, built since last year, only affects those with diesel engines. The cabin of the DS3 Inside is a major departure from the black-plastic slab look of most current Citroens. There is a leather roof lining, a sweet sweep across the dash with dials outlined in black chrome, and a new style of central console. Citroen has also added leather seats with more shape and support, as well as deep-pile carpet, claiming the result is ‘‘flowing and airy’’ with added ‘‘dynamism’’. ‘‘It will present an identity strong on modernity and distinction, draw- ing its DNA clearly from Citroens history of innovation and unforget- table design,’’ the company says. The production version of the DS3 will hit showrooms in Europe in the middle of next year and the car is already confirmed for Austrlaia. ‘‘The DS3 is one of three DS models, the others being DS4 and DS5, that will represent a separate range of premium models,’’ says Citroen’s Australian spokesman, Ed- ward Rowe. There is no timing yet for the DS4 and DS5 but they should also be in the lineup within 18 months.
